The Ancient History of Pompeii

Pompeii, a city of great historical significance, offers a fascinating glimpse into the ancient world. The history of Pompeii dates back to the 6th century BC when it was founded by the Osci people. Situated in the shadow of the mighty Mount Vesuvius, this city prospered and evolved for centuries.

However, the most well-known chapter in the history of Pompeii is also its most tragic. In 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted in one of the most catastrophic volcanic events in recorded history. The eruption buried the entire city under a thick layer of volcanic ash and pumice, effectively preserving it for centuries to come.

The ancient city of Pompeii was lost to history until its rediscovery in the 18th century. Excavations unearthed a remarkably well-preserved urban center, complete with streets, buildings, and even the remains of its inhabitants. These findings have provided invaluable insights into the daily life, art, and architecture of the ancient Romans.

The ruins of Pompeii paint a vivid picture of what life was like during the Roman Empire. Visitors can explore the ancient streets, admire the well-preserved frescoes on the walls of villas, and marvel at the intricate mosaic floors that have withstood the test of time.

Breathtaking Views of Amalfi Coast

While the historical significance of Pompeii is undeniable, the nearby Amalfi Coast offers some of the most breathtaking natural beauty in Italy. The Amalfi Coast is a picturesque stretch of coastline along the southern edge of the Sorrentine Peninsula, known for its dramatic cliffs, lush greenery, and crystal-clear waters.

The Amalfi Coast is famous for its charming towns and villages, including Amalfi, Positano, and Ravello. Each of these coastal gems has its own unique character and beauty, making it a must-visit destination for travelers seeking a taste of Mediterranean paradise.

One of the best ways to experience the Amalfi Coast's beauty is by taking a scenic drive along the winding coastal roads. You'll be treated to awe-inspiring views at every turn, with the azure sea on one side and steep cliffs on the other. It's no wonder that this drive is often considered one of the most stunning in the world.

The Amalfi Coast is not just about the views; it also offers a chance to savor some of the finest Italian cuisine. You can indulge in fresh seafood, delicious pasta, and the famous limoncello liqueur, all while enjoying the scenic backdrop of the coastline.

Exploring the Rich History and Natural Beauty

Visiting both Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast in one trip allows you to experience a fascinating contrast between the ancient world and the natural wonders of the present day. It's a journey that takes you through time, showcasing the resilience of history and the splendor of nature.

While Pompeii offers a glimpse into the lives of ancient Romans and the tragic events that befell them, the Amalfi Coast allows you to relax and revel in the beauty of the Mediterranean. We were traveling with 2 young kids, so we appreciate the flexibility and pace. However, what we got was mainly a car and driver and not a guide telling us much about the history except a few facts while driving along.

Beata – United States

I thought I was getting a guide, not just a driver for the trip.

traveler – Sri Lanka

... But you can't do much on the tour... And the minibar consists of water.

There was no archaeological guide as outlined in the package we booked. The driver and car were excellent.

One suggestion to improve your service would be to teach your driver how to change a flat tire and to use the tools supplied. We lost an hour due to the flat tire, and my friend and I ended up doing most of it ourselves. The driver explained he was a bus driver and not the normal van driver, which sounds okay but he should still know the basics, even for his own car.
